The Story Behind I See ABILITY!
At a very young age, I was taught how to live my life with an open heart and mind. I was taught this mainly from my brother David, a man with Down syndrome. Playing with him and growing up with him made me passionate about learning and experiencing life with a person with a different-ability. This later made me go on to become an occupational therapist. I am so fortunate to get to work with children everyday. My latest and greatest work is assisting parents and teachers in playing to the abilities of their students and children, to enable them to learn and grow.
I feel there are many people out there trying to focus on the diagnosis of the child, instead of focusing on their abilities and what they do well. What makes us all the same is that we are all born with something that may be an obstacle for us, however, if we keep our focus away from that cone in the road and open our minds to what we can do well, we can create so many more positive learning opportunities together.
In my latest video, I explore this topic of focusing on abilities instead of disabilities, how my business and movement, I See ABILITY!, came to be. And I even give you a sneak peek of my book and the dolls I created that inspired the project. Hope you enjoy what you see!
